Dr. Laura Summerhill, LCSW-S

Dr. Laura Summerhill, LCSW-S joined Texas State University in 2004, teaching on campus until 2007, when she left to pursue her PhD. She earned her doctorate from New York University, along with degrees from Columbia University (MSW), Bank Street College of Education (MS Ed in Special Education), and Florida State University (BSW). She also holds post-graduate certificates in Clinical Issues in Adoption from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and Spirituality and Social Work Practice from NYU.

Dr. Summerhill brings extensive clinical experience from diverse settings, including corporations, correctional facilities, and foster care and adoption agencies. She also maintains a small private practice. Since 2012, she has taught online courses across the social work curriculum.

In addition to her teaching and clinical work, Dr. Summerhill is deeply committed to community service. She volunteers with the Women’s Storybook Project of Texas, helping incarcerated mothers record stories for their children, and presents workshops on neurodiversity, learning differences, and anxiety to local schools. In her free time, she enjoys art classes and running marathons.
